October finished up strong with some great Coho fishing all fall around the Southern end of Vancouver Island. Many of the Southern Island Rivers had more Coho than they have had in over a decade. Mooring the boat in Beecher Bay, we were only a couple of minutes to the fish. Most of the fishing occurred off Beechey head in 300-500 ft of water or around the second tide line. There were a few days we moved out to the shipping lanes (5-7 miles from shore). We fished hoochies and spoons all fall with the glow white hoochie out producing everything else most of the time. The silver blue and the blueberry muffin coyote spoon yielded some nice fish at times as well.
Last week I did four guided trips with three keeper Salmon each day. We are now targeting winter Spring Salmon. The fishing around East Sooke has not picked up as of yet. We have landed a few fish in the 12-13lb range, but the majority are around 7-9lbs and lots of very small ones. Right in front of the marina in Beecher Bay has been ok, as well as Whirl Bay and off the South Bedford Island. My best producer so far has been the baitrix herring strip in white and blue behind a purple glow flasher. Glow green and silver blue coyotes have also been working. We are offering a great winter rate if you would like to get in on some winter Salmon action give me a call anytime.
At this time we are still waiting to hear some final numbers for Chinook Salmon returns to most major systems. From what we have heard the major systems south of the boarder did quite well. As far as predictions for the 2013 summer season it looks like we will see similar returns as in the previous couple of years. Better predictions normally come out a few months after Christmas.
I am now taking bookings for the 2013 summer season. Anyone interested in fishing in July or on a weekend should pick some dates soon as they are going fast. As of now I only have a few weekends left all summer and less than half of the month of July. Give me a call or drop me a line to discuss a world class fishing adventure.
