Nearly double the run size surprises biologists
The "finish lines" are reporting final salmon run sizes that, in some cases, double what was expected.
Three systems, which are key indicators for the entire WCVI salmon productions, were all synonymous in their outcomes: the Nitinat, Stamp and Conuma were fantastic. The Coho run came in sizes that could be characterized as a phenomena - they just kept coming.
Another major news headline in the Pacific Northwest, is about the Fall Chinook run to the Columbia River system, with numbers in the hundreds of thousands, that topped their predictions by double. When a good run is characterized as 600,000, what do you call it when over 1,200,000 return?
This all adds up to great things for the collective future of all of our Pacific Fisheries.
