The North Pacific waters of Haida Gwaii have provided our guests with great fishing all summer long and August has been no exception with a lot of exciting news to report.
Up on Langara Island we have less than a month to go and much to look forward to starting with this week's Fishing For Kid's Tournament currently running until August 27th at The Clubhouse. We hope this year's tournament will raise the bar even further from last year's record donation in support of the Canucks Autism Network (CAN). Best of luck to all of those involved and tight lines!
Another stellar season at The Outpost has come to a close, but not before a very unique experience for a group of lucky anglers that went 16 miles off shore in search of Albacore Tuna, which produced legendary results. The West Coast Fishing Club's resident scribe Deepwater Don Wells was along for the journey and his account of their high seas adventure is not to be missed.
Coming off this memorable season, bookings for 2015 have started to ramp up with a large number of our guests locking in their trip dates for next year before it's too late. As a reminder, our guests that have booked trips in 2014 have first right for 60 days after their trip date unless they wave this preference for those next in line. If you don't want to miss out on a preferred date for 2015 be sure to call us today at 1-888-432-6666 or click here to make an online request and we will do our best to accommodate you.
In the early morning hours of August 14 an intrepid group of eight Outpost anglers and four guides set out in search of schools of Albacore Tuna that a friendly commercial boat captain had advised were within striking distance of Port Louis. The West Coast Fishing Club's resident scribe, Deepwater Don Wells, was part of this renegade high seas adventure, and provided the following account that produced 55 Tuna for the lucky anglers.

"Salmon fishing is very good right now as is the weather. Seas calm, and plenty of season to go. Here at Langara we do not shut the doors, the fish keep pouring by, its a long season. There are plenty of Chinook to mid September. This is where you want to fish for spring Salmon, this is why we built the lodge here on Langara. Close to the grounds, with ample Chinooks, five months of the year. That is why I am here. I never get tired of the buckled Sage rod and the screaming Islander reel. Maybe it is a sickness. Come have a look, you will not be disappointed!" ~ Mike Tonnesen, Head Guide, Screamer

The beautiful August weather we have been experiencing at North Island continues as this recent stretch has been unreal. All the guests are getting into good numbers of Chinooks, Cohos, and Sockeyes are jumping everywhere and we are even getting some taking the cut plug herrings on the surface. Proud to report several big tyees caught and released recently including a 55 for Mike Murphy and 45 for Steve Kilgor.

An opportunity to go offshore for Tuna is just one of the many reasons that The Outpost is our most unique lodge and such a special place for only 14 guests to enjoy each trip in the heart of remote Haida Gwaii. Fishing over the past couple weeks has continued to be productive with good numbers of mid twenties Chinook being caught, along with some nice mid 30's tyees, feisty Cohos, and endless Halibut action.
