Shearwater
Howards 42lb beauty.
The "Hotspots are near Shearwater"
The past couple of weeks have seen the Chinook fishing doing fairly well for early season! Not a lot of big bait around just yet but lots of “firecrackers” so the needlefish hoochies have been giving anglers success as have purple haze hoochies or chrome Wonder Spoons or blue/white squid squirts. A few of the bait lovers have also been doing fairly well with cut plug herring. Fishing is deep this time of the year with most being landed between 80 -110ft down.
The hot spots have been fairly close by to Shearwater, in fact, just last week a guide started trolling just off the dock in Bella Bella and landed a chrome 18lb Chinook salmon within a stones throw of the government dock! Mike Moore just recently landed a 38lb Chinook at Back Eddy, on his first night, just at dusk – reportedly a fantastic fight with the sun setting and Howard brought in a 42 pound beauty.
Walker Island, Story Point, Dryad Point, Idol Point, Back Eddy Bay, and even Cultas have been the favorite spots to hit recently.
Weather has been fairly normal for spring time on the central coast, some days hot, others filled with rain or overcast skies.
