Our 2nd Annual May/June Fish In attracted many anglers. Last years lucky winner was the defending champion from 2011, Mr. Gordon Brodie with a whopping 40.5 lb Spring. He returned in late August filling another limit boating 2 Tyees: 30 & 31 lbs taking the trophy for The Largest Chinook for the trip. He also brought in a beautiful 17.5 lb Coho. Congratulations Gordie we know we will see you again to defend your title for the 3rd year in a row. What are you waiting for? Come fish with us in our annual June Fish In and you could be the lucky winner of the free trip back to Shearwater during our 2013 season.
An Inaugural Silent Auction was held during the derby which raised $2,465.00 for The Shearwater Elementary School. The Kids graciously send out The Biggest & Warmest Thank You to all those who generously helped support our local school. This money will help pay for a new an improved playground. Thank you to all the generous sponsors, Rapala, Lowrance, Islander Reels, Brendan Morrison, BC Lions, Vancouver Canucks, Rosedale on Robson, Ganders Taxidermy, Garmin, Yamaha, Pacific Salmon Foundation, River Rock Resort, Gibbs-Delta and of course BC Outdoors Magazine. Look for our latest Spring Salmon and Coho fishing shows being aired from March 16-2013 onward. We look forward to yet another successful BCO derby which is being held from July 19-22 2013.
The North American Derby was held from July 23-27, and proved to be another success! Our Lodge photographer and host Mr. Dennis Pingree was missed by all. His lovely wife is doing well and we look forward to seeing you and your camera in 2013 Dennis. Bryan French won this derby trophy for The Largest Spring with his amazing 49 lb salmon. John Kotchen was awarded the trophy for The Largest Coho weighing in at 17 lbs. John also boated a 52 lb Halibut and won the free trip back to defend his title in 2013. Honorable mention goes to Terry Tracy with an outstanding 46 lb spring along with Dean Vause from The Alberta Adolescent Recovery Center and his 40 lb spring salmon. Halibut catches include Taylor Vause weighing in a 61 lber, Noel Lowry and Ben Weibe who also brought in 50 lb fish. Next years’ derby is being held from July 22-26. We hope to see you there.
The Can American Derby hosted by Pauline Imamura from July 30-August 03 turned out to be one heck of a time with Mike Walker winning the free trip back to Shearwater in 2013. Congratulations Mike! The Largest Chinook was 36.5 lbs boated by Sandy Hale winning the trophy, cash and a Shimano Rod. The Largest Coho was 14.5 lbs brought in by Bob Burge taking the Coho Trophy, cash and a beautiful print donated by The Pacific Salmon Foundation. John Wawerna Jr. angled in the most pounds of salmon for the Derby. Mrs. Pat Skillen was The Most Honest Angler and Gino Tavonatti was crowned with The Limpest Rod Award. Did you rig that up Gino? Many thanks to everyone who participate in this derby year after year. What will the Can-Am Derby for 2013 bring during July29-August 02? Can't wait!
