Fish On!
Hello everyone, I hope you are finally enjoying some nice spring weather wherever you are. The weather seemed to be a bit behind this spring but the fish are definitely not. The Salmon and Halibut fishing around Victoria has been exceptional. The Halibut season opened on March first and we have had fish in the boat on every trip since. The largest fish of the season is a 91 pounder taken by myself on one of the few days I get
out there to have some fun. Salmon fishing has been very good as well. The first few weeks of April had some nonstop action around Constance Bank. The majority of these fish are in the 8-12 lb range, but we have had quite a few larger teenagers as well. As we know Salmon are carnivores, but I did not know they were cannibals. During a trip on April 17 we had a Spring Salmon eat a Salmon belly in over 300 ft of water! I have had them on the halibut gear previously on herring, or a jig, but this was a first for me. I have spoken with a few other guides about this and only one of them said they have seen this before.
I just returned from a week of work up at the lodge. I have been building a sauna for everyone to enjoy after your daily work-outs on the water with us. I am looking forward to the season getting going this year. I mentioned last time I was looking at adding a new boat this year. I have purchased the boat and can't wait for some of you to enjoy it. It is a 28ft Trophy with twin 225's on it. I still don't have a name for it, so if there are any suggestions let me know. If one of your suggestions is chosen, I will have a Reel Obsession paraphernalia package for you.
We are going to have a great team this year. Our Returning guides Jamie Rothenberger, Jon Bannis, and Carl Peterson will be running the other boats. Between the three of them they bring over 70 years of local knowledge to the water.
This is going to be our busiest season yet by far. I still have a couple of Spots to fill. I have an extreme special for June 19, 20, and 21. If you are interested in this spot give me a call ASAP. July is 95% full; I only have a couple of single boat spots throughout the month. August is looking good, but I have a couple of great spots near the end of the month. This is prime time for big Chinooks, and always seems to be some of the best weather of the year. Give me a call if you are interested in any times this season, the few spots left will go fast.
