It is common knowledge July and August are solid months to be fishing at Langara Island, but few people know the bounty that can be had when fishing the month of June. For the past 4 years, June has been producing more tyee than we have seen throughout July and August!
Not only do we experience an exceptional fishery in June but we also see some truly beautiful weather as is evident in the lodge reports below.
Whether you are planning a leisure trip or a corporate trip, arranging trip dates to accommodate everyone’s schedule can be challenging. We commonly hear this process being compared to “herding cats”. June is a great month to arrange your trip as you are avoiding the likelihood of your guests having their own family vacations planned in the months of July and August. Also, most schools are still in session therefore your guests do not have the additional challenge of organizing a caretaker for children at home.
To get the June fishing season started off right, the Clubhouse opens with the SNC Invitational Shootout Derby on June 2-6. This derby provides not only access to some of the best fishing we’ve seen but also provides the winning angler with a SNC return trip for two back to the lodge later that summer! Daily prizes also include Islander reels for the largest fish of the day.

June 2-6, 2012: “Top Fish was taken by David Boyer, a 41 lber, largest fish at Langara this season thus far, and a fish he was thoughtful enough to put back after some great pics. his partner David Akins had a 31, wow, nice fish there too. Brent Saharchuk tagged a 33.5 and David Stevens released a 31 , out at Andrews this pm with Buckshot, David traveling from England I am told. The hot boat for size was Brent's, but most of our guides found some fish. A nice low twenties was tagged at the reef in Bryce's boat, a couple higher twenties in Ryan's boat. Kory had a few nice sea lions, but tagged a fish in the twenties and certainly was busy.”

June 5-9, 2011: “The weather was near perfect as the fleet charged off to check out the action at all of the popular spots. A lack of VHF radio chatter is generally a sign that all of the guides are busy setting gear and assisting guests in landing their catch. The silence was deafening. By 4:00pm, a few boats started to return to the dock, a full three hours earlier than scheduled. This could only mean two things. Fishing was slow and they had given up for the day. Or fishing was really good and they were ready for cocktails. It was the latter. Upon checking with the guests during Appy Hour, it seemed that most of the boats had 10 to 15 fish on during the five to six hour session. Most of the chinook were in the 15 to 25 pound range although two tyee class fish (30 and 37) found their way to the dock. Nice.”

June 16, 2012: “The boys slipped in for lunch but we stayed and the chinook fishery exploded on us, one fish after another, mostly high teeners low twenties. One rod fishing at a time for like four hours, my hands! As Steve French would say, like the old days! We were grabbing seven to ten fish an hour, heavy hauling all systems go. Mooching rods on fire out the back, fresh bait sizzling, chinook acting like snapping turtles on a feeding frenzy, it was a show.”
