Westcoast Fishing Club
Now this is fishing! Even in our wildest dreams, we could not have imagined such a start to the 2013 season. Not only has the weather been spectacular, but the Chinook Salmon have returned in huge numbers, including an eye-popping number of big fish that we wouldn’t typically see in such abundance until early August.
A total of 115 Tyees were netted in the month of June at the Clubhouse alone. The lodges combined for six over 50 pounds and two over 60 pounds. Rarely, if at all, did guests fail to limit out on Chinooks, with plenty of 20 to 30-plus pounders caught and released by wonderful people who share our conservation-minded approach to angling for big fish. Case in point: self-guided guests Dan Butler and Perry Wilkins closed out the month in fine style with a 65-pound Chinook caught and released off McPherson Point.
In terms of sheer numbers, the Outpost has produced consistently, although with fewer Tyees on the board. Even so, these early season fish are at the peak of their life cycle, feeding voraciously and providing anglers with epic battles and punching well above their weight.

Although we have seen a slight slowdown in the action during the first couple days of July, there are still plenty of Chinook salmon to be found and the Coho are increasing in abundance daily. Overall, the continued presence of massive amounts of bait combined with an almost unprecedented number of fish caught in June leaves us highly optimistic for the balance of the season. Historically speaking, June is the greatest indicator of how the remainder of the season will go, so we are looking forward to more fabulous weeks ahead!
Unfortunately, there is only a very few number of spots remaining for the 2013 season, and even 2014 trips are now beginning to book up, largely by recent guests hoping for another off-the-charts fishing experience in June. But before you conclude that you missed out on a vintage year, give us a call, there are a couple August dates still available or keep your eyes on the Short Notice Club for an opportunity to experience an incredible season of the world’s best salmon fishing.
