To say the fishing has been good the past few weeks would be an understatement. The Salmon fishing has possibly been the best I have seen in my 13 years here in Zeballos! Incredible numbers of Chinook Salmon are being caught from Rosa Harbour out to the Salmon highway. The weather has been great, so the off shore run has been made easy.
Chinook are being caught from 80 feet down to 225 at the highway. Hoochies are definitely the best producing lure at the moment. Jack Smith, Clover Leaf and J-89 have been good colors for us. The Oki big shooter flasher in green mist with the kinetic tape on it has been working like magic. Purple glow and Betsy have also been working well.
Good numbers of Coho are still being caught through out Esperanza. Low Rock has been the most consistent action inside the surf line. We still haven't seen a lot of big fish, but the numbers sure make up for it. Spoons and hoochies on short leaders trolled fast between 3-4 knots has been working great.
Halibut fishing slowed down a bit after the last full moon. All groups were still able to limit out but we have had to put some time in. Octopus and Pink Salmon has been working the best. Ling Cod and Yellow eye have been great in a new spot we started fishing a few weeks ago. The last 3 groups that left had limited out on Chinook, Coho, Ling Cod, Snapper and Halibut.
As of now the end of the season is in sight. We have had a great year and the bookings for 2014 are coming in strong. I have one spot to fill in early September. If you have been thinking about it, don't miss out on filling the freezer for the winter. Drop me a line or give me a call anytime.
