Shuswap Lake -Rainbows and Sockeye
Westside Stores in Salmon Arm at www.westsidestores.ca:
The Shuswap boundaries are opening tomorrow and that will allow anglers back into the mouth of Adams river. This are will produce some great fishing opportunities as the salmon fry head through this part of the lake and out Little River on their way to the ocean. The mouth of the Eagle will also open up and that should produce some good rainbow fishing. Watch your fish finder close and try to locate the schools of salmon fry that are leaving the lake. Get into those schools and stick with them. The big rainbow make them a large part of their diet and if the salmon are there, the rainbow will be close by. Use the most popular fly on the lake for some of the best results. Troll a type 6-weight line at about 1.5 miles/hr. with your favourite colour of Shuswap Bucktail."The shoals on White Lake are still teaming with great fish and the chironomid fishing is on fire. Cruse the shoals in search of the areas where the fish are moving around and actively feeding. Once you locate these areas, drop anchor and try an anti-static or KFC chironomid for some hot action. The balanced leech will also work well under your indicator if you want to switch it up and get away from the chironomid fishing. We have a great selection of custom tied flies that are made by local guys who are fishing our waters with these patterns."I had a chance to fish Gardom last week and did quite well. I had some success fishing and intermediate line with a damsel pattern, the damsels were hatching and drying their winds on every stick or rope that they could climb up on. I fished different chironomids and searched the water column to figure out where the fish were feeding and finally nailed it. I found them to be taking an anti-static chironomid with a brown rib at about 16 feet under the indicator in 20 feet of water. I landed several fish and one was in the 6-lb. class. This fish was a healthy Fraser Valley strain that bull dogged me for quite a while before finally submitting to me and letting me net it. I snapped a couple of photos and released it back for someone else to hook and enjoy.
