Stretch your fly line before fishing for better performance
Gink & Gasoline
Leaving tightly reeled fly line on the reel for long periods of time can cause the fly line to retain it's coiled appearance. This issue only gets worse the longer you leave the fly line, so take a few minutes to stretch out your lines before you hit the water. It's also recommended to use fly line cleaner and conditioner occasionally in between trips. Another common problem is twisted fly lines, but unfortunately stretching won’t untwist it. Gink & Gasoline suggests that you drag it behind the boat and let it untwist. If you don’t have a boat, they say to wade into a fast riffle and let the fly line out.
