There are a couple ways that anglers carry their rods through the bush, both with some advantages and disadvantages. One common way is to carry the rod by the cork handle with the rod tip facing forward. This way makes it easier to guide through the branches but you could end up with a broken rod tip. The second way is to hold on to the cork handle and let the rod tip face backwards, but this way can still manage to hang up by the leader over and over again.
The third hold, suggested by Deneki Outdoors, is to carry the rod by the mid-section. This way keeps the rod half as long in front and behind you and is much easier to protect the rod tip.
