I would like to thank my fantastic staff for their dedication and hard work. It takes everyone coming together to make the season a success. As well, I would like to thank all of the guests that came through the doors this year. It was great to see all the familiar faces and to meet some new ones; this was our best and busiest season yet.
With another season behind us, I can now relax and think about some of the great memories that were made. We had some incredible Halibut fishing this season. We caught more Halibut and bottom fish this year than any other I can remember. Although we didn't have a lot of huge fish, we were in the double digits for fish over 100lbs. The majority of these fish were released. The largest being landed by Rich Howe on July 31st - this fish was part of a quadruple header we had. Two of the fish landed were around 20lbs, one in the 70's, and Riches barn door was somewhere around 80inches long, having an approximate weight of 225-250lbs.
Even though it's not a year in the record books for the Salmon, we still had some great action. The early season of June and July proved to be some of the best fishing of the year. The Salmon fishing was hot and heavy through these two months. You know the fishing is great when you have a client ask to take a break after fishing for only 30 minutes (July 21st, no names mentioned). August had a few slower spots which is very unusual for this time. I have heard reports that mentioned a lot of the bigger Springs may have gone down the inside waters this year due to warmer water on the outside. This is good news that they are still making it to the rivers.
Now back in Victoria we are doing a lot of fall charters for Coho. The fishing has been exceptionally good and consistent. Most fish are being caught from 70-120ft on the downrigger. Glow white hoochies, silver green and silver blue coyote's have been working well for me. We have been fishing off Beechey head in 350-500 ft of water most days. Farther out in the tide lines has been good at times as well.
I am starting to take bookings for the 2013 summer season. July is actually half full already. If you have some preferred dates give me a call, or drop me a line to discuss your world-class fishing adventure.
