Natural elements including air and water temperatures, winds, currents, water clarity and the level of light available can all affect fishing. With all of these on an anglers mind, the element of barometric pressure sometimes goes unrecognized.
Barometric pressure, also known as atmospheric or air pressure, is the weight of the atmosphere pressing down on everything on earth. It constantly changes from high to low, but when observing pressure for fishing, this isn’t as important as which direction the pressure is moving and what speed it is changing.
Fish are sensitive to these pressure changes because they sense it in their organs, they can feel the weight of the air pressing on the water. It's especially felt in their swim bladder which controls their buoyancy.
