Saltwater
Coho fishing is picking up from Port Renfrew to Victoria. The Chinook fishing is spotty around the south Island. The sockeye run has slowed down but some are still being caught. The salmon seem to be moving with the recent rains. Halibut fishing was slow this past weekend.
Sooke
The salmon fishing was spotty to good this past week. Otter Point and Possession Point were producing most of the action for springs. Coho are now being caught regularly, especially out further from shore in 400 feet of water.
Port Renfrew
Salmon fishing was good at Swiftsure Bank and along the shoreline, although not as hot as in previous weeks. Both chinooks and coho are moving into the bay in preparation to running up the river and anglers have been catching them in close there as well as near Logan Creek. Halibut fishing is still good.
Becher Bay
Salmon fishing was steady for coho off Beechey Head and in the shipping lanes. There have been good bites very early in the morning as well as the late activity. The hot spots for springs this past week were Aldridge Point and the Trap Shack. Springs as large as 33 lbs were caught this past week.
Pedder Bay
Pedder Bay Marina reports good salmon fishing both inside Pedder Bay and near Church Rock. Coho are now out numbering chinooks at the fish cleaning station. Anglers are getting most of the coho out in 400+ feet of water. The best bite times have been either very early in the morning or late in the afternoon and evening.
Victoria
Fishing for salmon was fair off Constance Bank early in the week. Anglers tolling on the bank with Skinny G’s and Wee G’s in Irish Cream and Blue/Silver are catching springs. In closer, it’s been fair for anglers trolling the Harbour area. There were some good bites in the late morning for fish into the twenties.
Oak Bay
Salmon fishing was fair in Oak Bay. Winter springs have moved onto the Flats and anglers were getting limits of springs to 10 lbs. The salmon are feeding on needle fish close to the bottom. Most of the anglers have been either bottom bouncing small anchovies, squirts and spoons or jigging close to the bottom.
Sidney
Salmon fishing was fair in the Sidney area. The best areas this past week were Hamley Point and near the James Island ferry dock. There was a large run of squid near the James Island ferry wharf and anglers were taking advantage of it either by fishing for squid and/or salmon.
