Crawlin 5

I think in the minds of 99.9% of the off-road world, there are only two things currently on the go. Now that SEMA is over and done with for another year, they are focused on either the Baja 1000 or the King of the Hammers. Unless you’ve been under a rock your entire life, I am certain you have heard of the Baja 1000, which is running November 17th to the 20th. Then, in February is the Week on the Lakebed for KOH (main race day will be Feb.10th, but there will be action all week long). As I write this, many teams are already en route to Ensenada, Mexico - if not already there prepping and pre running. We will especially keeping an eye on the Master Pull and Hall USA team in their Trophy Truck. With over 3000 race miles on the truck, they have worked out the bulk of the bugs and are looking for a solid finish this year. Good luck guys and be safe out there!
On the KOH front, pretty much every 4x4 bulletin board out there is full of new builds, re-builds, new ideas and inventions from teams all over the world looking to be #1. From Canada, we have at least 2 teams pre-qualified for the main race. One from here in BC (driver: Curtis Warner), and another from Ontario (driver: Mat Noualy). I have also heard through the grapevine, that there may be 1 or 2 more teams trying their luck in the LCQ this year. If you have been wanting to go down and be a part of KOH, this will be an excellent year and I am sure some of the Canadian teams are still looking for team members. Look them up on CrawlinBC.com or ThrottleHappy.com and drop them a line if you are interested.
Currently, I am still gathering and confirming dates for all the major competition series for 2012. I have most of them, but I fear there will be a couple more dates or venue changes, so I will hold off yet again on publishing anything. I do know that WERock and Calrocs will be holding an event together at Donner Ski Ranch. This should prove to be one the most exciting events for 2012. Donner is an unreal comp site, and if WERock and Calrocs are teaming up, you won’t want to miss it (as a competitor OR spectator).
To keep track of all the excitement (here comes the shameless plug), the 2012 Crawlin’BC calendar will have everything you need to know. All competition dates from the big comp series, Best in the Desert dates, Ultra4 dates, KORR (Kamloops Off Road Racing) dates and much, much more will be listed in the calendar along with a ton of great action pictures from 2011. Visit Crawlin’BC.com to order yours now! You might even be in it!!!
Since we’re talking so much about 2012, let’s hear from YOU! I try to be everywhere all the time, and with the help of the internet I think I get most of it, but there are always events or comps that I might miss. So, if you are reading this and want to see your event or comp mentioned in Rock Talk, or if I have completely missed something important, please shoot me an email and fill me in admin@crawlinbc.com. No matter how big or small, there’s nothing that we won’t talk about or promote.
So as always, see you on the trails (soon to be snow covered trails!!!!) and stay safe out there. Till next time.
