As I sit to write this, I am sitting in front of the window in our condo in Moab, Utah. I have the most unreal view of the red rock mountains and a gorgeous blue sky. The Lion’s Back is just off to the left of me reminding me of the good old days when it was open and not so many land use issues surrounded the area. But all that is material for future articles. As soon as we are home we will begin the long process of weeding though thousands of pictures and putting it all together so you too can enjoy the amazing scenery and wheeling here in Moab!
Now, speaking of land use, I am very sad to report that after 6 years of success, Rockin’ the CRIB will not be happening in 2012. I have gone back and forth with a “certain someone” (I’ll just say it’s a .gov position) about the logistics of the event and even though we are one of very few user groups who promote responsible use of the outdoors, it seems this isn’t good enough anymore. I am not finished with this fight and I will do everything in my power to bring you Rockin’ the CRIB in 2013. Keep an eye on this column for more information regarding ROTC and other land use issues.
WERock is in full swing. The Western series is already two events down and seems to be running with a good momentum. The all natural event sites seem to be a much needed change for the competitors. The addition of the Sportsman Class is also a great for people and rigs that aren’t fully competition ready or not wanting to run an entire series. Tracy Jordan even signed up for a rock crawl event after a couple year hiatus.
By the time this gets to newsstands, Cal-Neva will have their first event in the bag. They are trying a new course format for this season. Instead of 4 courses and 10 minutes per course they are going to try doing 5 courses with an 8 minute time limit. I like this idea (change is good!) but unfortunately, the dates of this event conflict with another event for us and we won’t be able to attend. Not to worry, I will still be watching via the internet and will have all the updates in a future column.
There is some exciting news for Nor-Cal Rock Racing and KOH fans. The 2012 series will be a 2013 King of the Hammers qualifier. With 2 KOH spots available it will be sure to be an exciting series. The events take place in Rancho Cordova in California and will run on; June 2nd, August 4th and September 29th. Check out www.norcalrockracing.com for more info or to sign up.
I would also like to mention the Straddleline ORV Race Series. For off road race enthusiasts like myself, these races are about as close as they get (location wise). The Straddleline ORV area is located in McCleary, Washington and will run 6 events this year with the last one being an endurance race. With lead sponsors like Master Pull and 4 Wheel Parts these events are sure to get bigger and better as they run. Go to www.promotopromotions.com for all the info you may need about these races.
That’s about it in a nutshell for now. I am always following events and races and will continue to bring you all the updates right here in the Crawlin’ Column. We sure hope to see you out there… and as always, stay safe!
