Crawlin No. 11
By Richard Walker
Dates, dates, dates! This is what has been on my mind for the past few weeks. This is the time of year when we are frantically trying to organize all the dates (and awesome wheelin’ pics) to get the 2013 Crawlin’BC calendar to print. We try to have them ready to ship well in time for stockings and as usual, this year will come down to the wire. The calendar will have everything you need to know for 2013, including all the dates from Ultra4 (King of the Hammers, etc.), all the rock crawling series, Dirt Riot, Kamloops Off Road Racing, Highriders, and more. You might even see some pics of you or your friends in action on the trail. It will be available soon at www.crawlinbc.com on the main page.
Our friends in Ontario had a chance to rip up a short course event with some of their Ultra4 style buggies. It was the first time these types of racecars had been allowed on this course and after the event the promoters expressed interest in adding some “obstacles” for next year. It is always nice to see more options for racing and more promoters willing to adapt events for these vehicles and their unique capabilities. Everything you need to know and photos from the race can be found at www.throttlehappyoffroad.ca.
WERock has wrapped up their 2012 season. The Grand Nationals took place in Dayton, Tennessee on September 28th and 29th. In a true East meets West battle, the competition was fierce, especially considering both days of competition took place at night. The shootout was the last run for all the competitors and in true Dayton fashion it was a “bonus land” type run. Honestly, words can’t describe the action. I suggest checking out the pics and videos from Pirate4x4 or the WERock/Facebook sites. In the end, the West coast boys took the top two spots in Pro-Mod and 1st in Unlimited. As a matter of fact, only three points separated the top three spots in Pro-Mod. That’s a close race! Aaron Sykes in the Superchips car was crowned Pro-mod National Champ, while Brent Bradshaw took 1st in Unlimited, Bryan Cooper in Mod-Stock and Brian Milsap in Sportsman. This is an event I am kicking myself for missing. Rumor has it they will be back at Dayton for 2013. Is anyone out there willing to spend 45 hours (each way) in a truck with me?
I caught word not too long ago about some news for the 2013 King of the Hammers LCQ (Last Chance Qualifier) course. Dave Cole was quoted saying, “I scouted the new Qualifying course yesterday. We have never used it competition before. It does not have any 'make or break' big climbs like ‘Backdoor’ or even the difficulty of the first rocks on ‘Chocolate Thunder’. Its straightforward, fun, technical rock crawling with some twisty, up and down go fast, whoops, and some short course. Spectators will be able to watch the ENTIRE course from one spot and the whole thing will be live on the Jumbo Tron.”
I happen to know of at least a couple Canadians (maybe more, depending on current builds that are underway) that will be down there trying their luck in the LCQ, hoping for a spot in the big race. If you weren’t planning on heading down, even to watch, you might want to rethink that. This will be a very exciting week of racing action.
Well, that gets us up to date for now. And speaking of dates (again), if you have anything on the agenda for next year that I don’t know about, drop me a line as soon as possible so I can include it on my list of things to watch and possibly get it added to the CRIB calendar. mailto:Admin@crawlinbc.com
Stay safe, and see you at KOH!
