Steeped in history with a tradition of attracting those who are hooked to serious fishing and the outdoor lifestyle, Painter’s Lodge and April Point Resort and Spa have evolved over the years to effectively provide the utmost comfort, while adhering to its roots of providing adventure and excitement. Sure, the region is renowned for its active salmon fishing, which is still a large attraction, yet Painter’s Lodge and April Point Resort and Spa have a series of contemporary services, stylish accommodations, dining options, plus outdoor activity for families and fishermen alike.
Although the two resorts are in close proximity of each other – with Painter’s Lodge just north of Campbell River on Vancouver Island and April Point Resort and Spa being a five-minute water taxi away on Quadra Island – both share many creature comforts while providing slightly different atmospheres.
“Fishing is no longer the sole reason to visit the two resorts,” says Kira Liu, director of sales and marketing for North Coast Hotel Resorts Ltd. “Painter's Lodge is now family-friendly, and April Point is more of an exclusive location for adults to escape their busy lives, and are looking for a private, natural space that is holistic.”
Painter’s Lodge
Open seasonally from May 1, 2019 – January 1, 2020
The 98-room Painter’s Lodge, which marks its 90th anniversary in 2019, is hard to miss. It stands prominently along Discovery Passage, and although its nearby to the many services in Campbell River, its still isolated among lush greenery. The resort’s pet-friendly, deluxe guestrooms include loft-style units, deluxe suites, even cabins – available with ocean or garden views – and combine with great dining and activities to ensure enjoyable visits.
Of course, guided fishing packages are available in various Boston Whaler models with scheduled times and rates. Or, try the exclusive Tyee fishing excursions where you can catch this often hefty species under the man-power of traditional rowing. It’ll be an experience to remember. If fishing isn’t your deal, there are eco-adventures to include whale watching, guided Grizzly bear tours and other wildlife tours where you can watch for black bears, sea lions, seals, and more.
On land, the on-site tennis courts are always popular and the heated pool or whirl pool is always enjoyed by many. After a day in the outdoors, formal dining can be enjoyed in the expansive Legend Dining Room and more casual fare is served in the relaxing Tyee Pub, which often features live entertainment.
Some other services and amenities include: Free WiFi, cycling (rentals are available), hiking, fitness center, golfing packages, airport shuttle, car rentals, meeting/banquet facilities, baggage storage, free parking.

April Point Resort and Spa
Open seasonally from May 15, 2019 – September 30, 2019.
Located on Quadra Island at the mouth of Gowlland Harbour, April Point Resort and Spa is just minutes from Painter’s Lodge, yet its atmosphere and intimate setting makes for a quiet, peaceful getaway. If you’re arriving by boat, moorage is available at the full-service, April Point Marina and if you’re coming from the island you can take the free water-taxi from Painter’s Lodge. There’s also the BC Ferry Service that can accommodate cars to better tour the island’s attractions.
Being more remote than the neighbouring Painter’s Lodge, you’ll enjoy all the greenery that matches the panoramic scenery. Accommodations at April Point Resort and Spa include cabins or private houses (all with oceanfront views) in various styles to accommodate your specific needs. One of the key attractions, however, is the on-site spa located right on the harbour. With its Japanese-inspired setting, it serves a series of unique treatments and packages to provide the perfect feeling of getting away from it all.
But if outdoor activity is more your thrill, wake up to a morning of guided salmon fishing, then perhaps rent an e-bike to explore the island further. Many packages as well as wildlife and whale watching tours are available. Kayak and paddle boards are available to rent as well.
After a long day, the oceanfront dining room (with an expansive deck) is great way to unwind with its locally-inspired cuisine. You can also take the quick water-taxi to more dining options at Painter’ Lodge and other local establishments.
Other services, amenities and activities include: WiFi, evening entertainment, canoeing, nearby golfing, hiking, meeting/banquet facilities, sun terrace, airport shuttle.
