Derelict vessel to be removed from Ladysmith Harbour
Georgia Strait Alliance
The federal government has recently promised to remove the Viki Lyne II from Ladysmith Harbour by the end of this summer! The ship, which has been abandoned since 2012, is at imminent risk of sinking with 13,000 litres of oil and toxins on board, making it a large threat to the community, local economy and the marine environment.
Georgia Strait Alliance is a vocal advocate for solutions to derelict vessels, and called for action on the Viki Lyne II at Ladysmith's "Concern for our Harbour Day" rally and flotilla last summer.
We will hold the federal government to its promise to remove this vessel in the next few months. We encourage you to continue raising your concerns about this issue with your local, provincial and federal representatives so future disasters are prevented.
