Yamaha Marine Group announced Tuesday new mechanical control versions of its 225- and 250-hp 4.2-liter V6 Offshore outboards, available as the F250XB in both left and right-hand rotation, and the F225XB in right-hand rotation only.
“Boaters who need mechanical control can now enjoy all of the legendary 4.2-liter V6 offshore benefits,” Yamaha Marine Group president Ben Speciale said in a statement. “These outboards are great repower solutions for boats that don’t need digital electronic control, yet can benefit from Yamaha’s lightweight high-efficiency 4.2-liter offshore platform.”
The digital electronic control and the new mechanical control have the same features, power and performance. Expected availability of Yamaha’s 4.2-liter V6 Mechanicals is late summer 2016.
Yamaha’s 4.2-liter offshore models have big-bore V6 displacement because of plasma-fused sleeveless cylinders. The technology increases displacement without enlarging the outer diameter of the cylinder bores. The technology also contributes to the outboards’ light weight.
V6 Offshore Mechanicals are more than 50 pounds lighter than the Yamaha 3.3-liter V6s. They also offer better low- and mid-range punch and better fuel efficiency.
When repowering with the Yamaha 4.2-liter V6 Mechanicals, there is typically no need to change to a new control box, providing an economical solution for workboats or other craft where digital control is not needed or desired, the company said.
