Torqeedo debuts new electric outboard
Soundings TradeOnlyToday Magazine
Torqeedo released the Travel 1003C, a longer-running version of the company’s best-selling electric outboard with an integrated lithium battery.
The Travel 1003C has a 915 Wh battery — 73 percent more battery capacity than the standard Travel 1003 — at an almost identical weight.
Both Travel 1003 models offer the same performance as a 3-hp gasoline outboard engine, with thrust equivalent to 4 hp. The Travel is designed for small boats, dinghies and daysailers as large as 1.5 tons.
With a total weight of 33 pounds, including the integrated lithium battery, Torqeedo said the Travel 1003C is the lightest and most efficient electric outboard in its class on the market, with a range of 18 nautical miles at a speed of 3 knots.
Like the entire Travel family, the Travel 1003C comes standard with GPS and a digital readout that displays power consumption, battery status and remaining range (time or distance).
A USB socket charges a phone or powers a light. The TorqTrac app displays motor information on a smartphone or similar device and allows boaters to plan their trips in advance.
It has a travel bag to carry the engine, battery and foldable solar panel.
Torqeedo said the new Travel 1003C is available for the 2017 watersports season with a short and long shaft version and is priced at $2,399.
