During the 2016 New York Boat show, MasterCraft displayed its new NXT20 Global Edition to the public for the first time. Designed for watersports enthusiasts living in coastal zones, this new extension of MasterCraft’s popular entry-level NXT line is the company’s first outboard towboat in over 20 years. Ever since the New York show, boaters around the world have had the opportunity to experience the NXT20 Global Edition, powered by a 175hp Mercury Verado outboard engine with the option to upgrade to a 225hp model.
“MasterCraft continues to expand its product line to meet the consumer’s demand for quality construction and reliable performance across all boating categories,” said Terry McNew, MasterCraft president & CEO. “The introduction of the NXT20 Global Edition opens up MasterCraft ownership to boaters in coastal and overseas markets where shallow waters and harsh salt water conditions require an outboard configuration. Suffice to say, anything we do in the outboard industry, we will do it with Mercury.”
“Mastercraft is a leader in the tow sports segment, and we are delighted to partner with them,” said John Pfeifer, Mercury Marine president. “Coupling a leader in tow sports with the premium Mercury Verado outboard propulsion allows both companies to grow brand recognition and attract young boaters.”
While the initial target for the NXT line extension was the coastal market, interest has begun to grow in other areas. “We initially debuted this boat at our dealer meeting,” said Jay Povlin, MasterCraft vice president, global sales & marketing. “We planned this boat as a global edition but soon found our North American dealers migrating to this as well.”
“I can tell you from more than 50 years in the industry in this market with my parents and Mercury Marine, this is one of the best decisions ever made,” said Andreas Muhl, Muhl Wakeboats, Deutschland. “It’s a different approach. We are now also including customers who are looking for sport fishing, skiing and wakeboarding. We have on-water capabilities that are different than before.”
“We wanted to partner with Mercury due to their leadership and reputation around the world,” said McNew. “We couldn’t be more thrilled by the reception we are receiving for the NXT20 Global Edition and our partnership with Mercury.”
