WESMAR Thruster
Submitted By Susan Black
“WESMAR thrusters are built for the toughest of sea conditions to meet the requirements of work boats around the world. Whether working in the oil fields or elsewhere, the demands to turn in tight quarters, hold position, and dock in challenging environments are standard assignments for our powerful thruster systems,” said WESMAR Vice President Bob Sentz announcing his company’s attendance at the International Work Boat Show October 9-11 in New Orleans, LA. “We will display one of our commercial bow thrusters in the Donovan Marine Booth (#2218), our dealer in the Gulf,” said Sentz.
“Our equipment is working worldwide in the oil fields and many other challenging environments for private companies, municipalities, naval and other government operations throughout the world. The stainless steel investment casting construction adds to the durability and reliability of these systems. Our complete commercial line of 20- to 48-inch thrusters, with horsepower ratings from 75 to 500, is available in hydraulic, AC and direct drive. They are operating onboard crew boats, supply boats, tug boats, fishing boats, fire boats, ferry boats, OSV’s, RO-ROs, and recovery boats,” said Sentz.
WESMAR’s counter rotating dual propeller design splits the power between two gear sets yielding very high propeller efficiency. The counter rotating design with one prop pulling the water in and the second prop pushing water out for greater thrust creates greater power and up to 40% more thrust, with less noise and less vibration. This design also allows the use of smaller tunnels, ideal for shallow draft applications. “Our footprint has several applications for shallow draft boats and the counter rotation allows for installation in smaller tunnels,” says Sentz.
Information about WESMAR’s other systems, including the high performance digital triple axis gyro controlled roll fin stabilizers, including the zero-speed option; its central hydraulic systems; and sonar for navigation and commercial use will be available at the show as well.
