The 2015 RV Travel & Camping Guide to Texas is packed with information on things to see & do, as well as unique places to eat, across the Lone Star State
The 2015 RV Travel & Camping Guide to Texas is much more than a campground directory. “It’s an indispensable guide for things to see and do across the Lone Star State,” said Brian Schaeffer, executive vice president and CEO of the Texas Association of Campground Owners (TACO). “We added a ton of advertorials to the guide this year, highlighting things to see and do in specific areas of Texas, and that led to a lot more pages. We went from 130 pages last year to 156 this year.”
In addition to highlighting scenic attractions, historical sites, museums, outdoor activities and cultural attractions, the 2015 RV Travel & Camping Guide to Texas features unique culinary destinations in every region of the state. “Everybody likes to have really good food when they travel, so we thought it would be nice to include information on unique ‘hole in the wall’ or ‘famous for one thing or another’ kind of places,” Schaeffer said.
The featured eating establishments include:
— Blue Bonnet Cafe (www.bluebonnetcafe.net) in Marble Falls: This restaurant has been a Texas landmark since 1929, serving up traditional American dishes from chicken fried steak to pot roast.
— The Big Texan Steakhouse (www.bigtexan.com) in Amarillo: Established in 1960, this famous Route 66 restaurant’s menu items include a 72 ounce (4.5 pound) steak, and they’ll give to you for free if you can eat the whole thing in an hour or less.
— Mi Tierra Café and Panadería (www.mitierracafe.com) in San Antonio: This famous Mexican restaurant has been around since 1941.
— Joe T. Garcia’s (www.joets.com) in Fort Worth: This Mexican restaurant first opened in 1935.
— The Gristmill River Restaurant & Bar (www.gristmillrestaurant.com) in New Braunfels: This restaurant, established in 1977, is a favorite hangout for country music stars. Texas, of course, is famous for its country musicians, including Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Tex Ritter.
Beyond providing detailed information on things to see and do and places to eat in Texas, the 2015 RV Travel & Camping Guide to Texas also provides informative ads, including a four-page spread on PPL Motorhomes (www.pplmotorhomes), the nation’s largest RV consignment dealer.
The 2015 RV Travel & Camping Guide to Texas is being distributed to TACO’s 400 member parks as well as Texas Points of Entry, travel information centers and consumer RV shows.
Locator maps are also provided at the beginning of each regional section of the 2015 guide, with numbered listings of the campgrounds for each region. Campgrounds are also alpha-indexed by city and park name.
Each campground listing includes a grid that lists the park’s facilities, services and amenities as well as driving directions, a miniature locator map and many parks have panoramic photos showing off what campers can experience. The directory also features a Texas Saver Card, which provides 10 percent discounts at participating parks.
The 2015 directory also includes a separate section listing campgrounds with cabin and cottage rentals (www.TexasCabinRentals.com) as well as a listing of park model manufacturers. Schaeffer said almost a fourth of Texas campgrounds have cabin or cottage rentals. Many of the parks that offer cabin and cottage rentals also have sites for lease or for sale to park model owners.
