Riverside Resort Whistler
By Perry Mack
Whistler is renowned throughout the world for majestic outdoor adventures, both winter and summer. It’s also renowned for being one of the most expensive places to enjoy when it comes to accommodations. Fortunately for RVers, the pet friendly Riverside Resort Whistler is located less than four km from Whistler Village and provides an affordable way to enjoy the spectacular views in a nirvana of outdoor adventure and splendour.
Without leaving the resort you can enjoy beach volleyball as well as a host of other activities including bocce, horseshoes, soccer or relax on the expansive lawns for a picnic or gathering with friends. Their very own Riverside Greens is an 18-hole putting course that features real bent grass greens providing great entertainment for all ages. Whistler’s 40km trail network runs directly through the resort - just walk out your door and enjoy a scenic walk or bike to Green Lake, Whistler Village, or any number of spectacular locations throughout Whistler. Or head into the adjacent Lost Lake Park, for immediate access to over 30 km of fantastic trails for hiking, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing, with everything from challenging single-track to plush gravel roads in summer, and immaculate grooming for classic or skate skiing in winter.
Feeling like some indoor activity? Meadow Park Sports Centre is just minutes away and offers an aquatic centre, arena, squash courts, and a fully equipped fitness centre. To sum it all up, you can easily walk, cross country ski, or take the free shuttle to many shops, restaurants and activities located only minutes from the Resort.
You’re surrounded by the rugged BC coastal wilderness but that doesn’t mean you have to give up any amenities. The full service (back-in or pull-through) sites are open all year long and are equipped with electricity, (30 & 50 amp) water, sewer, free limited Wi-Fi, fire pits, picnic tables and cable (for an extra $4/day). In addition, the sites are complimented by full facility Comfort Stations with bathrooms, showers and heated floors so you can fully enjoy both summer and winter camping experiences. Partial service sites are also available with all the amenities other than Wi-Fi and cable.
If you’re planning a larger gathering there’s accommodations available for the non-RVers in your group in the form of walk in tent sites, cabins and yurts – literally something for everyone. Speaking of groups, new for May 2014 is the installation of ten-metre diameter activity yurt to accommodate groups and family reunions.
