Many people associate Brown's Bay Resort and Campbell River with salmon fishing. Rightfully so, as the city is known as the "Salmon Capital of the world" but that is not all…
Family can have a great time too. The resort has many amenities to keep the family going. Ripple Rock RV Park offers horseshoe pits, a fitness room, outdoor shuffleboard, playground with tugboat and a beach. There is a communal fire pit for roasting marshmallows and telling your campfire stories. Hang out at the fishing pier during the day and you might see the Orca’s swim by. For the days that the weather is not cooperating, there is a large clubhouse that has a pool table, games and shuffleboard table to relax in - out of the elements. The clubhouse is also used to host potlucks, which are held on long weekends during the summer season. The resort organizes a different theme each time; there are salmon and chilly cook offs, Canada Day and 4th of July Celebrations, and even a Luau with a pig roast and wood carving competition.
As you are on the ocean, why not try to get the kids to catch their first fish off the dock? The marina office can supply you with rods for any age, so everyone can try to catch dinner. The crystal clear water makes viewing the resident seals, and other sea life, as easy as watching them in an aquarium. Try a starfish counting competition - the kids will love it.
Want to be more adventurous? The fishing charter companies that run out of Brown’s Bay have many years of experience helping everyone from beginners to experts catch fish. You can also go on a whale or bear watching tour. You’ll head up through the straight, exploring inlets that are sure to provide you with many whale and wildlife photo opportunities.
If you enjoy the ocean but want to venture away from it, there are many options. Amazing hiking trails are close by so you can experience the true beauty of the west coast forests. You can hike to one of the best waterfalls on Vancouver Island in Elk Falls Provincial Park. This is a short walk and even possible for the little ones. Care for a swim? The resort is a short drive to an abundance of fresh water lakes with beaches that the whole family can enjoy. If you want to be more active, bring your kayaks and go exploring. Not to bring up fishing again, but many of the local lakes are stocked with trout and you will have a blast catching them.
The view from your ocean front RV site will be breath taking. From the marine traffic to the wildlife, there is always something to see right from your doorstep. If someone in your party doesn’t have an RV, the resort offers different options for your accommodations. The cabins are equipped with a full kitchen, living room with gas fireplace, downstairs bedroom with queen bed, washroom with shower/tub combo, second bedroom upstairs and a large ocean front deck with BBQ. The wall of windows facing the ocean offers fantastic views so you can sit and relax in the custom log furniture and watch the world go by. Either as a couple or a family, you will have plenty of room as all cabins can accommodate up to 6 guests.
Take a break from cooking (and cleaning up). The Narrow's Floating Restaurant is located in the marina and has "All you Can Eat Crab" nights and many other west coast inspired meals.
So, do you have to go Salmon Fishing at Brown's Bay Resort? No, as you can see there are various other options for the whole family. However, as the fishing grounds are only 5 minutes away from the Marina, you might want to take advantage of them!
