Sunrise accomplishes this by offering a myriad of activities, social events and first-rate recreation facilities, which include tennis and pickleball courts, shuffleboard, and a fitness center.By Ken Underhill
Located in the heart of bustling Apache Junction is an oasis of relaxation, beauty and fun. The Sunrise RV Resort encompasses 34 acres on Broadway just east of Ironwood, and features amenities that rival any 5-star resort. This is obvious the moment you enter the gated community from the lushly landscaped entrance, to the gorgeous pool and spa complex, and the attractive Mission architecture of the Recreation Center. But don’t be fooled by the quiet, tidy streets – this resort caters to the over-55 crowd who want an active lifestyle.
Sunrise accomplishes this by offering a myriad of activities, social events and first-rate recreation facilities, which include tennis and pickleball courts, shuffleboard, and a fitness center. There’s even a golf program with the Roberts Resorts nearby sister facility, Gold Canyon RV & Golf Resort. Indoors the resort features a Multipurpose lounge, card room, billiards room, computer lab and a large banquet hall with parquet dance floor.
Opened by the Roberts family in the late 1980’s, Sunrise appears much newer than other parks of more recent vintage. According to the firm’s Marketing Director, Ken Underhill, this is due to several factors. “It begins with our commitment to maintaining and improving our properties to a high standard of excellence, and by having a great team who manage and run the operations.” Sunrise Manager, Linda Sorsen adds, “It’s also a tribute to our wonderful residents and guests that the resort remains so picture-perfect! They care about their environment and each other as friends and neighbors…and it shows!”
Part of that is by design. The resort has a 55 and older age restriction, although younger family members and guests may visit on a short-term basis. Sunrise also limits the type, size and age of RV’s that are allowed to rent space at the resort. Small rigs less than 26’, pop-ups or those older than ten years are not permitted, which enforces the upscale ambience found at all three Roberts Resorts in the valley.
And yet there seems also something less definable that distinguishes Sunrise as a special place to live or vacation. Amid the neat rows of well-kept Park Model Homes and RV spaces can be felt a definite small-town atmosphere. There’s a charm to this place, and an old-fashioned spirit of care and concern for one another. Front-porch swings and morning strolls, community pot lucks, bingo games and billiard tourney’s are all part of the fabric of an easy-going, yet active life at Sunrise Resort.
Sunrise Resort offers RV space rental on a daily/weekly/monthly or longer term basis with all amenities included in the standard rate. Most activities are on hiatus for the summer, but resume from October through March. Also for rent are a limited number of Park Model homes, which entail 400 square feet of living space and include kitchen, full bath and frequently a “Florida Room” Numerous Park Models are available for purchase, and are regarded as both an economical and low maintenance option for retirement or leisure living.
