How to keep safety chains from dragging with the Chain-Up
Fastway Chain-Up
Fastway Trailer Products presents the Chain-Up. Hi, my name is Kim with Fastway Trailer Products, here today to tell you about the Chain-Up a solution to dragging chains.
Do your safety chains drag when you tow?
Twisting the chains shortens them, but did you know it weakens the chains as well and in some cases may be illegal.
The Chain-Up is the quick and easy way to keep your chains from dragging on the ground. The Chain-Up is designed for standard and adjustable ball mount hitches and a model for weight distribution style hitches.
The Chain-up's inner circle fits a 1 and 7/8 inch to 2 inch ball. Clipping the material between the large hole and these four small holes will allow the Chain-Up to be used with a 2 and 5/16 inch ball. The long oval holes are where you would feed the safety chains through to hook to the tow vehicle. The chain-up only needs to be set-up once, after that it's right there, ready to go when you are.
Begin by placing the Chain-Up on the ball. Feed the Chain-Up through both oval holes. Crossing the chains is a safe procedure when towing any trailer.
Hook the chains to the tow vehicle.
Adjust the chains so the Chain-Up lifts the chains off the ground.
Then hook the trailer to the tow vehicle.
When you're finished with your trailer and you're ready to store it, disconnect the chains from the vehicle and lift the Chain-Up off the ball. Leave the chains hanging in the Chain-Up and set them on the tongue of the trailer. This should keep the chains off the ground. The next time you use your trailer, just slip the Chain-Up over the ball and hook the chains to your vehicle. Your chains will be set the same as the last time you used your trailer.
Now let me show you the model we use for our weight distribution hitches.
Slip the Chain-Up on the hitch ball.
Hang the Chain-Up off the back of the hitch head.
Cross feed the safety chains through the oval holes. Adjust the chains so they don't drag.
Retract the jack.
When you're ready to store your trailer, unhook the chains from the tow vehicle. Leave the chains through the Chain-Up. Lift the Chain-Up off the ball and rest it on the top of the trailer tongue.
The Chain-Up is the fastest and easiest way to keep your chains from dragging and you can get these from your local dealer or online at Fastway Trailer dot com and thanks for watching!
