Mold and mildew are both fungi that grow in damp places with poor ventilation. The fungi can grow on any RV surface—from wood to carpet to tile—and on food. The main safety issue comes from inhaling the spores, which can lead to respiratory and nervous system problems including skin, eye, nose and throat irritation. These health risks can be intensified in an RV due the close quarters that we experience.
A major cause of mold and mildew for Canadians is long-term storage. Keeping your RV locked down or under a tarp creates an efficient mold and mildew incubator. Even if it’s not visible on the surfaces you see, it may be growing on carpet padding or inside walls. Once you’ve got it, it can be tricky to clean up so the best method of dealing with it is prevention.
There are some home remedies but nothing works better or easier in long-term storage situations than a professional grade product. SUPERDRY’s powerful and effective desiccants have been used in the commercial cargo industry for years to protect cargo from mold, mildew, and corrosion caused by high humidity in enclosed spaces. And now, it’s available for homes and recreational vehicles – including boats.
Each box contains five 100 gm units and one kg unit. Three of the five 100gm units come with a convenient hook to help distribute the packages more affectively.
The safe, non-toxic formula allows the desiccant to absorb up to 200% of its dry weight and converts the absorbed moisture into a dry and safe gel or “putty”. This kit is suitable for boats and vehicles up to 10 m (35 ft) in length and will last from 1 to 6 months, depending on the ambient Relative Humidity and volume of space being protected.
