Discover Science Adventure at TELUS World of Science
When visiting Edmonton this spring and summer, you won’t regret planning an excursion to the TELUS World of Science – Edmonton (TWoSE). Through dynamic and interactive programming, TWoSE motivates people to learn about and contribute to advances in science and technology, in a fun and unique atmosphere that is educational for all ages.
Recently, two permanent exhibition galleries opened, and have fast become favourites among guests.
The first of which is the Discoveryland gallery, scientifically engineered especially for children ages 8-years-old and under. Since opening at the end of 2011, this exciting and interactive gallery has become the destination for young children to learn through play, featuring four unique areas to spark any young child’s creativity.
The second is the award winning Syncrude Environment Gallery, which opened in October 2012 and has since been recognized as Best Exhibit by the Canadian Association of Science Centres, which recognizes outstanding achievements in science and technology engagement by science centres across the country. This gallery features several displays, unique to TWoSE, including interactive touch tables, an engaging recycling exhibit and even a simulated ice flow – to name a few. The centerpiece of the gallery is the awe-inspiring Science on a Sphere, an iconic 6-foot diameter projection system used by staff scientists to visually enhance live presentations.
TWoSE also features three other permanent galleries: The Body Fantastic, which provides an interactive trip through the inner workings of the human body; Mystery Avenue, which focuses on the science behind forensics; and Space Place, which is dedicated to all things outer space.
Also included in a General Admission ticket for TWoSE, are the famed full-dome shows, shown in the Margaret Zeidler Star Theatre. These full-dome planetarium shows are designed for all ages and completely immerse the viewer in full colour and sound. Shows include: Experience Aurora, which provides stunning imagery of the Aurora Borealis; The Digital Universe, which explores the wonders of our solar system; and Dawn of the Space Age, which details space exploration.
This summer, two special feature exhibitions are slated to arrive at TWoSE.
