Home to the historic City of Fort Pierce, the new and vibrant City of Port St. Lucie, and the beautiful uncrowded beaches of Hutchinson Island. St. Lucie is located on the Atlantic Ocean along the east coast of Florida, 190 km (120 mi) southeast of Orlando and 185 km (115 mi) north of Miami.
Centrally located in the heart of the Treasure Coast, this tri-county area received its name after a hurricane sunk a fleet of Spanish galleons just off the shores in 1715. The shipwrecks left millions of dollars of gold, silver and other treasures on the ocean floor. Although the Spanish set up salvage camps, many treasure hunters have found, and still find treasures off the shores today.
St. Lucie offers an ‘Old Florida’ experience. It’s just south enough in Florida to enjoy the tropical climate, and just far enough to avoid the hustle and bustle of a crowded south Florida destination. Friendly locals and very affordable restaurants and accommodations will allow you to extend your stay. The area offers a variety of accommodations on the waterfront, or inland near golfing, and other recreational facilities. Accommodations include chain hotels; quaint privately owned hotels and motels, as well as camping and RV sites. The area also offers one of the US’s only all-inclusive resorts. Or stay for weeks at a time in condo or home vacation rental.
Beach activities are endless including sunbathing, picnicking, fishing, kayaking, surfing, kite-surfing, dog-friendly beaches, and horseback riding.
