13th Annual Discovery Coast Music Festival, Bella Coola, BC, July 20-22, 2012
In 1998, a small group of volunteers decided that a music festival would be a joyful way to get the valley’s residents together, and hopefully help to rebuild its sagging resource-based economy. Listening to live music under the summer sun and the evening stars created some magical memories for everyone that first year, and The Discovery Coast Music Festival was born. Since then, it has grown into a widely-respected event, incorporating many well-known performers into the line-up, while still encouraging local talent and youth to participate in all aspects of its production.
This family oriented event boasts a diverse line-up of music: roots, rock, world, blues, folk and more. Sunday afternoons feature an interactive Children’s Site with special performances for children of all ages. Visit www.bellacoolamusic.org or call 250-799-5607 for more information.
ArtsWells Festival of All Things Art , Wells / Barkerville, BC, August 3-6, 2012
Expect the unexpected! Wells has always been a town vibrant of arts and culture. In the 1930s, musical acts were enjoyed in the very same Wells Community Hall where many of this year’s shows and exhibitions are being held. Artists have travelled from across the country to this little mountain town to be part of this inspiring collaboration. This is a four day outdoor & indoor event, designed with community in mind. You can take in the great artists, the local flavour of nature trails, the historical sites, artisans, and of course – all of the friendly folk. Call (250) 994-3466 or (800) 442-2787 or go to www.artswells.com for more information.
