BC Interior RV Show
“So many RVs. They're RVerywhere!” was the best quote that was heard during the third annual BC Interior RV Show April 25-27. Even with the reduced hours on Saturday (the 2014 event closed at 7pm instead of 9pm as in 2012 and 2013), the event still hosted almost 10,000 visitors through the South Okanagan Events Centre and the Penticton Trade & Convention Centre entrances. Guests purchased a $5 wristband that was good for the whole week with the net proceeds being donated to charity.
The event had something for everyone – whether you are a seasoned RV'er or a young family just looking at getting into the RV lifestyle. A family could invest in their first RV unit for less than $80/bi-weekly and have a self-contained 'traveling home' to build memories for a lifetime. There were hundreds of RV units to view in the over 80,000 sq. ft. of indoor space plus another 25,000 sq. ft. outdoors. In the breezeway between the SOEC and the PTCC, Penticton Yamaha displayed motorcycles, scooters, ATV's and a roof top boat. There were hourly RV Lifestyle educational sessions, tourism associations, RV resort properties, financial and insurance suppliers, speciality RV parts & supplies, trucks and cars plus a vintage Tear Drop Trailer from Okanagan College in the Penticton Trade & Convention Centre.
As a result of the success of the event and the overwhelming community support, the directors of the society are thrilled with the volume of food donations received for The Salvation Army Community Food Bank. After all of the food is weighed and inventoried, the society will make another announcement as to how much was donated.
New this year was the partnership between the BC Interior RV Society and the BC Lodging & Campgrounds Association working together to host a Grand Prize Draw. Everyone attending the event could enter into the free draw at the PTCC. The Grand Prize Draw included a one week free RV rental from Midtown RV, and nightly site rentals and activities from various sites throughout BC. Then Murray Buick GMC Penticton topped up the Grand Prize with $500 in gas cards. The winner was drawn on Sunday afternoon before the show closed and the society is thrilled to announce the winner to be H. Campbell of West Kelowna.
The 2015 event dates will be announced soon but will most likely be again in the month of April. For more information on the event, please visit the website: www.bcinteriorrvshow.ca.
