How Trailer Length Affects Towing Stability

Coupler to tongue distance?

In the last paragraph what is "coupler to tongue distance" versus the "distance from the coupler (or tongue) to the axle" - I am confused. Also "there will a big difference" doesn't say whether short or long is more stable. Please clarify.

Coupler to tongue distance?

I believe 'coupler to tongue distance' is a typo. It should read coupler to axle.

A greater separation between the rear most wheels of the tow vehicle and the fore most wheels of the trailer will give you greater stability. A long tongue can facilitate such separation.

It actually doesn't say 'coupler to tongue distance' but 'distance from the coupler (or tongue) to the axle of the trailer'.
