A big name in the fishing community could be headed to Florida’s Okeechobee County.
WPTV reported that representatives with Guy Harvey announced they are planning to try to open up a resort and campground on Lake Okeechobee at the Okee Tantie Campgrounds and Marina.
Guy Harvey Outpost and Elite Resorts are teaming up to make the campground a national destination spot for camping and fishing in a three-phase project.
In a news release, project representative John Bell noted, “The goal of the plan is to create Lake Okeechobee’s best public recreation and RV resort destination, that is fun, safe, with dockside food and beverage, angler-centric for fishing (serious and fun fish), resort and eco-camper facilities and cabins, pools, splash facilities and a beach lagoon, sport courts and tournaments, shows and festivals and race events.”
This comes after the Guy Harvey organization backed out of plans to open a similar campground in Pahokee.
Okeechobee County Commissioner, Bryant Culpepper, feels Okeechobee will be a better fit.
“We have everything here that could support Guy Harvey with the box stores, with the hardware stores, with the restaurants and everything you need,” Culpepper said. “This is a dream come true for Okeechobee.”
