When you first bought your RV it had all the room you needed. Somehow, that great space was used up and instead of enjoying your RV, you’re constantly trying to find where you put something, or you’re trying to find a space so store things. Here are 10 simple space saving tips to have you loving your home on the road again.
1. Over the door shoe racks are a must in any RV. Place them on the back of your bedroom and bathroom doors for easy access to the little things you need. The bathroom one can hold toothpaste, blow dryer, makeup bag, toiletries, and even things like bug spray and rubbing alcohol, freeing up space in your bathroom cabinet. The one in the bedroom can be used for extra lighters, flashlights, your secret smore-making stash, spare keys, and other things you would normally leave on top of a dresser. You could even store shoes in them!
2. Stacking bins make great end tables or night tables. Fill them with things like extra blankets, sheets, shoes, and outerwear for easy access. When storing sheets, place a complete set inside a pillowcase so you’ll have everything in one spot. When you aren’t using the bins, simply toss a pretty throw over top and use it as a side table. You can buy single section bins, or the ones that are partitioned into drawers, to store small items. You can also get ottomans that double as storage containers and use that as your coffee table.
3. Large plastic rolling storage bins are great for use outside for barbeque equipment, spices, paper plates, and utensils. The sturdy ones can also double as an outdoor end table or seat. They are great for storing snacks too, but if you don’t have an airtight, locking bin, make sure you bring the snacks inside when you go to bed.
4. Collapsible storage containers are perfect for the RV. You can adjust them to the size you need, whether it’s a full bag of sugar or a small amount of leftovers, just open it up to the right size, fill it to the level you need and toss it in the cupboard or fridge.
5. Find a cutting board that fits over your stove to create a larger work area. You’ll love the extra prep space and when you are cooking, place it over the sink to hold your ingredients.
6. If there is room, hang a shelf system above the kitchen sink and sink rack. Now you have another shelf to store items you need on a daily basis.
7. More space saving in the kitchen can be had by installing a magnetic strip knife holder over the stove. It frees up room in your cutlery drawer and gives quick access to knives and scissors.
8. Under cabinet stemware racks are great for storing your wine glasses. If you are worried about the glasses clinking together, get some unbreakable plastic stemware. Corner cabinets usually have a fair amount of wasted space near the back. Screw jar lids to the underside of the cabinet and use the jars to store small items you use on a regular basis.
9. Polar fleece blankets and micro fiber towels are perfect for RVing. They take up less space, are easier to clean, and are just as good as fluffy comforters and huge towels.
10. Repositionable hooks and suction cups can be your best friend. They can hold clothes in the bedroom, towels in the bathroom, utensils and such in the kitchen, and pretty much anything, anywhere you want to hang them. Inside closets, cupboards, back of doors, under windows, if you have an empty spot on the wall, hang it!
Once you have a place for everything and have put everything in its place you can spend your time enjoying your RV lifestyle.
