Rocky Mountain Wine
Over the past few years Calgary has become a cultural mecca – a corner stone for concerts, festivals and international competitive events. From the international Highland Games in early September, 2011, to a string of huge concerts coming through town, to a raft of smaller cultural events, this year is proving to be a banner year in terms of local entertainment.Over the past few years Calgary has become a cultural mecca – a corner stone for concerts, festivals and international competitive events. From the international Highland Games in early September, 2011, to a string of huge concerts coming through town, to a raft of smaller cultural events, this year is proving to be a banner year in terms of local entertainment.
For the 14th year running, the Calgary Rocky Mountain Wine & Food Festival returns to Calgary and will take place on October 14-15, 2011. An excellent display of world-class wine from international vendors, premium spirits, import and micro-brewed beer, and numerous dishes and displays prepared by skilled experts in the culinary field. This event is known for its casual, yet tasteful social atmosphere.
The festival will get underway at the newly renovated Stampede Park BMO Centre. Here, more than 200 exhibitors from around the globe will present the latest and greatest of their product offerings. These will include premium spirits, single malt and blended scotches, port, specialty liqueurs, and import and micro-brewed beer. Products will range from quality wines, beers, ciders and others, to the typically exclusive ice-wines that many wineries are known for – especially in the Okanagan. Offerings will include premium spirits, single malt and blended scotches, port, specialty liqueurs, and import and micro-brewed beer. Check out the best of what’s new on the market (or what soon will be) and talk with the experts. Be the first to bring home the next big thing.
In addition to these quintessential quaffs, local restaurants will be part of the exhibition to tempt you with always incredible appetizers, savoury dish samples and desserts. Duck confit tacos, Moroccan lamb spring rolls, kobe beef sliders, passion fruit custard and creamy chai cupcakes are on the menu.
As an educational component to the exhibition, the Dairy Farmers of Canada will be putting on cheese seminars in tandem with the wine/beverage tasting sessions. These Canadian cheeses are made from 100% Canadian milk and go good with wine… Some information on wine/cheese pairings will be in order as well. Use this bit of added sophistication to impress your friends and influence acquaintances.
