We did notice that our hitch pin and cable lock use the same lock mechanism and are interchangeable. This is nice when you have a pile of locks securing your junk!

Lockdown with BOLT one key lock technology
If our vehicles ignition switches could talk, we’re pretty sure they would be begging for mercy. The strain is immense when you think of that tiny little brass key or plastic FOB holding up your collection of security devices while bouncing down the road. Our “jailers” smattering of keys needed to be cut down before we score a $500+ stealership bill plus a tow to their “world of pain emporium.” We found BOLT locks in the aisle of our local widget warehouse and it just made sense.
FOB’s for vehicles, house keys and a collection of assorted keys for other locks to castle and crown is a recipe for confusion. It would seem that our plan of having multiple key chains is a tragic failure in organization as well. BOLT Security’s idea of using your existing ignition key to operate a variety of different styles of locks was just what we needed. No locksmith required or engineering degree prerequisite. Loading Stinky Jeep onto our trailer for an excursion typically required a receiver lock, a hitch lock, a trailer tongue lock, a lock for securing our box for ratchet straps and cable lock for our jerry cans. That’s a lot of scrap metal! The BOLT “one key lock technology” design simply uses your ignition key for all these locks. When buying your BOLT locks, select the proper model type (GM, Dodge, Ford, etc.) and the first time you insert the ignition key into it, the tumbler sets to your key, forever! Future locks you buy are keyed the exact same way and the only key you will need is the ignition key.
The previous locks we were using were in pretty poor shape and not designed for being in the elements 12-months of the year, let alone driving around. All of BOLT’s locks are a heavy grade design with a tumbler engineered to keep the elements out and last for years as well as being pick resistant. Covers and flaps cover the access holes on most models to keep road grime and snow/water from getting in and freezing up.
We’ll level with you; the locks have made hooking up to, and keeping our trailer secure, a breeze, but we do have one beef. If/when we are required to let the old truck go, all the locks might as well go with it as they are keyed to that truck, and only that truck. If you are an “Editor Mack” type vehicle owner whose personal and vehicular attire seems to change by the minute, you may want to select a different key to program all your locks. Alternatively, Editor Irons still has the truck he drove to high school so many moons ago. These locks may go on his casket one day long into the future.
A lot of products that come our way seem to fill a void that doesn’t exist. BOLT managed to fix an annoyance that needed a simple and secure answer. No longer will we show up to unload our trail rig, only to find that the keys we need are nowhere near the truck that got us there.
