KORR BC – May Madness
The outlaw class rocked along, with the two rock crawlers, and the good old sportsman trucks.Story by Jennifer Loucks
The 2012 Kamloops Off Road Racing season kicked off on May 27th with a bang. And a crash. And a pirouetting UTV. Racing started at high noon and the action kept coming until the final truck crossed the finish line just after 5.
The limited lites proved yet again just how tough their little trucks are, as they swapped paint, rubbed fenders, and pushed each other around the track. Lucas Hagen took first place for the day, taking it from 2011 points champion Jim Jensen!
The outlaw class rocked along, with the two rock crawlers, and the good old sportsman trucks. You never know what you are going to get from the outlaws, and May Madness was no exception. These guys had huge air, and some of the most impressive rooster tails ever seen. Matt Nieman ran hard through-out the day, and took home the first place trophy!
The pro buggy class was soldiered only by Phil Strange, as his competition was struggling to find transmissions for their buggies. He joined in with the UTV's, who put on one heck of a performance! These machines simply fly, both on the ground, and through the air! There were crashes galore, and lid flopping, but most were able to get back on their wheels and keep going! Al McBeth and Cecil Sinow battled it out in the main, with Cecil overtaking Al on lap 8. Al managed to get his lead back, and took the win for the day.
Finally, there were the pro trucks. The 4410 rock crawler came off the start line during the second heat, and 8 seconds in, he had the most
spectacular crash I have ever seen in my time with KORRBC! Words simply cannot describe this crash. Fortunately, Curtis Warner walked away unscathed, though the buggy was not so fortunate. No one could rival Mike Caldwell's 500+ horse power, and he drifted his way to victory.
All in all, May Madness was just that. Completely mad! 2012 is going to be an incredible racing season. For more information, check out www.korrbc.ca
