Kelowna Toy Run 2011

Ira Couch, the man behind the scenes, has been the organizer of the Kelowna Toy Run for many years now. With the cooperation of the Salvation Army, the Kelowna Toy Run attendees drop off a truck-load of toys and food bank items at their site; much needed help for the less fortunate kids around the Valley. The Toy Run takes place the last weekend of November every year. The starting point for the toy donation area may change from year-to-year, as does the concluding trail run afterwards, but every year it's designed specifically so that all types of 4x4 vehicles are able to join in.

The friends and passengers of the 80+ vehicle owners' never disappoint - there's always a fantastic turn-out and show of support! 2010 saw the events' return to the Rutland Marketplace IGA'S parking lot for the gathering, along with a solid snow-run into the hills behind Kelowna for the 4x4'ers. Couch, just as he had accomplished in years passed, did a great job of bringing in donations from the local businesses, building them into a raffle in which those people who donated toys could partake.

After so many years of dedicated involvement, Ira is now bringing in a new group that will be taking over the organization of the Kelowna Toy Run.  So, here's a big thanks to Ira for his years of service in our Valley. The kids will again have something special under their trees, because you  - and those you brought together - cared.

Another great BC Toy Run takes place in Surrey each year, on the first weekend of December. Though, whether or not you find a Toy Run in your community this holiday season, remember: there really is nothing quite like giving to brighten each person's Christmas. Look for a local toy run (with wheeling, or not) or any other toy drive near you; it only takes a few dollars to put a smile on a child’s face.
