Slinging mud and breaking trucks in Alix, Alberta
In December 2013, HRC (Hardcore Racing Canada) was created by husband/wife duo Richie (Porkchop) Tremblay and Rhawnie Tremblay with the help and support of fellow enthusiasts Chet Ciupa, Dave Green and Rick Toner Campagna, not to mention our family and friends. We have successfully managed to put on an incredible event two years in a row. We also would not have been able to do any of this without our many volunteers and sponsors. Part of our planning has involved a major redesign of the entire course and we are going to attempt the creation of new obstacles every year, often in response to the feedback from our racers. It’s a very difficult task to have a wide variety of trucks all competing on the same course – it’s our goal to keep it challenging and competitive while still maintaining a high level of entertainment for the spectators.
HRC is a unique off-road 4WD competition that features head-to-head racing, high speeds, mud, hills, rocks and other obstacles. The event, typically held on or around the Canada Day long weekend, produces some exciting racing over two days. As a family oriented event, HRC see’s teams made up of families who compete with and against each other. Competitors come from all over Canada (open to the US competitors as well) and can range in experience anywhere from first year novices to 15-year plus veterans.
If someone breaks down and has little to no chance of placing, it is common for them to donate their parts to other racers in order that they may complete day two. We have a wide variety of trucks ranging from 35-in street legals, to truggies and full buggies. All types can play. Just because you might not have a top class truck, doesn’t mean you can’t do well. Justin Wickson proved this one year winning the entire event at the wheel of a Small Tire Class street driven Jeep on 40-in tires with a 4.0L engine.
The Course:
The course, located just outside Alix, Alberta, provides competitors and spectators alike a wonderfully variable course that features slow technical sections, natural climbs and high speed runs. Obstacles include:
- Concrete Hill
- HRC Hill
- The Lake
- HRC Pit
- The Basement
- Stink Hole
- Carved off camber S curve
- Mini Bomb Field
- 125-foot long log trap
- Squeeze Canyon
- Multiple Rock Sections
- Log Pyramids
With that we give you just a small sampling of the action as seen by photographer Pat Inglis.
