4WDABC Big Bothers and Sisters Run
Big Brothers & Sisters 4x4 run
On November 10th a small group of 4x4 enthusiasts gathered to do a trail run with the Big Brothers and Sisters of Abbotsford and take some young ones and their chaperones out on the trails.
4 boys, 4 girls, 4 chaperones and 7 trucks arrived with shining smiles at the Burma Lake Road on a cool crisp fall morning, eagerly anticipating the adventure to come. All had different visions of how they expected the day to be, ranging from thoughts that we'd be on Quads, "paved dirt roads" and rock racing.
Kim decided that a perfect route would be for us to make our way through some of the tight weaving turns around lower Stave Lake. As we made our way over the first "bump" with a bit of an incline in low range you could hear the passengers gasp for breath and a smirk could be seen on the drivers faces as they watched their passengers eyes become the size of saucers.
With each steep downward dip, water crossing, off camber turn, tire rubs in fenderwalls and big bumps up onto the tree roots the sounds of children giggling could be heard loud and clear in both the vehicles and on the radios as we talked to each other.
A few quick stops were made for snacks, with a final viewpoint for the group at the lookout point between Stave and Allouette where all took a moment to enjoy everything that nature has to offer. Returning back, exhaustion set in as several of the contented younger ones dozed off.
As the trail run went incredibly well, we look forward to expanding this program and having more of our members and supporters involved.
