Mill Bay village is a busy hub of shops, services, and a seaside bistro. Quaint homes and B&B’s lend the area a ‘summer retreat’ ambiance. There are many scenic, photo-worthy attractions just minutes from the marina, including charming and historical churches dotted along country roads.
A short walk from the marina you’ll find a beautifully landscaped shopping centre that features artisan coffee shops, boutiques and tourist information booth.
Stroll to Brentwood College, situated on the waterfront, to watch their annual international rowing regatta, or take in their live theatre and musical productions.
A short walk takes you to the Mill Bay Museum or local library. Arbutus Ridge Golf Course, an 18 hole championship course, has stunning views from the course and restaurant, and right across the road is a lavender farm that offers tours, a gift shop, and tastings of their lavender infused wines.
Hike the trails in nearby Mill Bay Nature Park, or cycle to Cobble Hill Mountain to enjoy views of Satellite Channel. Along the way discover farmgates and vineyards where you can sample the region’s fine wines, ciders and distilled spirits. Guided wine tours are available, with pick-ups at the marina. If you visit during the fall, be sure to check out Savour Cowichan, a two day wine and food event, held on a barge in the bay.
Drive or cycle to see the Historic Kinsol Trestle, one of the world’s largest. Walk the curved 200 metre length of this engineering marvel, soaring 45 metres above the Koksilah River.
Venture south a few kilometres along the oceanfront to enjoy the new waterfront walkway, or a little further to explore the beaches of Bamberton Provincial Park.
Mill Bay Marina has fuel sales, long term, short term and transient moorage. Their floating breakwater provides safe long term moorage for boats up to 88’ and short term moorage for boats up to 200’ with power, water and WiFi at their slips. Amenities also include a licensed bistro, washrooms with showers, a laundry facility and a sani pump out.
Top 5 things to do:
- Hike, cycle or horseback ride to and over the Kinsol Trestle, part of the 75 km long Cowichan Valley Trail.
- Visit wineries and a cidery and taste the region’s local specialties
- Take a scenic drive or cycle on quiet country roads and check out the views of Mt Baker
- Beachcomb at Bamberton Provincial Park or along the new board walk (open 2015)
- Greet the sunrise with yoga on the docks at Mill Bay Marina
