Georgia Srait Alliance thanks its supporters
Georgia Strait Alliance
Thanks to the generosity of supporters just like you, Georgia Strait Alliance met its target of raising $6800 in our December holiday campaign. Each dollar you donated is being matched by several generous donors, so thank you for helping us start 2016 strong!
In addition to the work we've shared with you over the past few weeks, in 2016 we will continue to focus on better protection for the more than 119 marine species at risk in and around Georgia Strait, a number that has nearly doubled in the last five years.
For over 25 years, GSA has been working towards the protection and recovery of species at risk, primarily through legal efforts to improve the implementation of the federal Species at Risk Act (SARA).
In the year ahead, we will continue to hold governments and industry to account on their obligations to marine life, and challenge decisions that will negatively affect the Strait.
Protection of species at risk such as the southern resident killer whale is one of the motivators that inspired the formation of the Georgia Strait Alliance in 1990 because if we protect killer whale habitat, we protect the Strait. With 8 new babies born to the southern resident population in the last 12 months, protecting their habitat today is paramount. We will continue this work through our many solutions focused programs such as the Waterfront Initiative and Clean Marine BC.
We start 2016 with a great deal of hope that we can work together to tackle threats to our region and we know we wouldn't be able to take on the challenges ahead without you - so thank you for your generosity and ongoing support.
