The beauty of northern Vancouver Island and the Broughton Archipelago is the isolated coves, inlets and rugged islands offer isolated anchorages you only dream about. Although it may be necessary to bring along extra fuel and supplies to manage the long stretches of remoteness in this region, the rural, shoreside businesses you do find will almost be like a mirage, providing a welcome break from the helm to relax, re-stock, and stretch your legs for a little while.
Almost blending into the rugged landscape is Echo Bay Marina and Lodge, a well-managed full-service marina resort located 45 km (28 mi) northeast of Port McNeill in the Broughton Archipelago. Formerly known as Pierre’s at Echo Bay, it has recently been purchased by The Kwiḵwa̱sut’inux̱w Haxwa’mis First Nation (KHFN) and maintains its home on Gilford Island in the heart of KHFN’s traditional territory on the shores of Echo Bay.

If it’s your first or 10th time cruising to the region, you and your crew will no doubt appreciate its many amenities. Gas, diesel, and propane are available while other services include a store for dry goods, laundry and shower facilities, 15-, 30-, 50-amp shorepower and WiFi. There’s also a post office as well as overnight mooring and comfortable lodging. This means you can comfortably stay for a few days (or longer) to unwind and enjoy many of the area to the fullest.
In fact, the excellent kayaking opportunities attract enthusiasts from around the world to explore its amazing passages. The fishing, too, is second-to-none and many go after salmon and halibut. The prawning is also excellent. If needed, experienced guides are available to help you further make the most of your visit.

When it comes to accommodations at Echo Bay Marina and Lodge, two rental suites overlooking the water are available and feature full baths, kitchenettes, dining/living rooms, and comfortable sleeping quarters. If you’re visiting with a large group in the off-season (September to May), room/board is available for up to 16 guests. There’s also a water taxi and floatplane services to and from the mainland to arrange group fishing trips or to meet up with transient boaters.
However, the greatest thing about visiting the area and Echo Bay Marina and Lodge is you never have to go very far to find true BC adventure. It’s wiling and waiting whenever you get the urge to find new experiences on the water.
