A unique experience awaits the art lover on the north end of the Shuswap Lake, in the village of Seymour Arm.
Mrs. Milena Wheeler (nee Piorecky), welcomes you to The Longridge Art Gallery, built by her husband, Ray Wheeler, for Czech artist – and her father - Josef Piorecky. The art gallery is located just a few hundred feet north of the floating Daniels Store.
The gallery has a large collection of paintings, drawings and graphics by this renowned artist; born the fifth of December, 1910, and passed away – at the age of 100 – the third of July, 2011. Piorecky continued to be actively engaged in his artwork until January of 2010, when he finished his last picture, entitled, “David and an Angel”.
Mr. Josef Piorecky visited Canada three times in the nineteen-seventies and eighties, spending time in both Alberta and British Columbia’s rural wilderness, while he visited his daughter and son. During these visits, he captured the beauty of the Canadian natural world, his focus encompassing the breathtaking mountains ranges, the endless prairies, an endless array of flowers and birds; animals and lakes. As a painter and graphic artist, he dedicated his entire life to his art. He had two art galleries in the Czech Republic, with his third built – and opened – in Seymour Arm, BC, in 2006; the latter owned and operated by his daughter, Mrs. Milena Wheeler.
Milena invites you to visit this outstanding collection of art; created in such mediums as oil, water color, oil pastels, and graphic designs. Some pieces in Mr. Piorecky’s collection are for sale, and may be purchased at The Longridge Art Gallery. Credit cards, debit, cheques or cash are accepted; admission to the gallery is free.
The Longridge Art Gallery is open daily from 10 am until 5 pm, from May until the September long weekend.
Mrs. Milena Wheeler looks forward to having you join in the celebration of her father’s life’s-work : the recreation of the beauty that is Canada’s natural wonderland.
