Zodiac Nautic Group and Torqeedo are teaming up on an electrically powered tender, the Avon eJET Concept, which was introduced last week at the Cannes Yachting Festival.
“Throughout its 120 years of history Zodiac Nautic Group and its brands have collectively invented the inflatable boat, the RIB and the inflatable jet tender,” Dominique Heber-Suffrin, president of Zodiac Nautic Group, said in a statement. “We’re always looking for what will come next in the boating industry and seek the best partners to make that happen.”
The tenders are equipped with the 80-hp Torqeedo Deep Blue electric motor and the lithium ion battery — the 32kWh — used in the BMW i3. In initial testing the eJET hit a top speed of 26 knots and will run for 90 minutes under normal use, Zodiac Nautic Group said.
“Avon’s eJET tender marks the arrival of clean and quiet electric mobility in the luxury tender segment,” said Christoph Ballin, co-founder and CEO of Torqeedo. “It’s a gorgeous product and we are proud to support it.”
The eJET is equipped with remote communications and diagnostics. The Zodiac Connected Boat device will let users track their location in real time, save their trips, turn on the lights from a distance and control battery systems. The boat is made with carbon-textured hypalon fabric, upholstery by Serge Ferrari and leather-wrapped handles.
Commercial versions of the eJET will be available in 2019.
