Same boat construction standards close for Canada & US
NMMA Canada
NMMA Canada is pleased to report that Canada and the U.S. are one step closer to having the same boat construction standards, making it easier for boat manufacturers in North America and internationally to sell product throughout both countries. Adopting similar construction standards will eliminate duplicate work, additional checks and unnecessary requirements for manufacturers when selling boats in both Canada and the U.S. All boats built will only need to meet the one standard for both countries.
NMMA has worked with senior officials in government on both sides of the border over the past few years advocating for regulatory harmonization and is pleased with the Canada-United States Regulatory Cooperation Council (RCC) Joint Forward Plan that will see further alignment of boat construction and lifejacket standards. The RCC was created by U.S. President Barack Obama and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper in 2011 and is committed to finding ways to reduce and prevent regulatory barriers to cross-border trade between the two nations.
