The White Rock Visitor Center – just 10 miles southeast of Los Alamos, New Mexico – is “hooking up” recreational vehicle (RV) travelers with the most economical rate in northern New Mexico of only $10 per night now through Nov. 1, 2013. The rate includes electric hook up and access to a dump station. On Nov. 1, the daily rate will change to $20, which continues to be one of the least expensive rates compared to most RV parks whose prices typically range from $20 to $45 per day.
The White Rock Visitor Center’s 16-space RV section includes 15 foot wide by 50 foot long pull through spaces; 30/50 amp; electric hook up; and access to a dump station. The visitor center also has a fenced dog park, complete with a water hydrant and synthetic lawn. A water hydrant is accessible near the dump station for RVers.
Reservations are not accepted, as spaces are available on a first come, first served basis. Self pay stations are conveniently located at the visitor center and accept credit or debit cards only; no cash please. Guests are limited to a 14-day (calendar) stay.
White Rock Visitor Center, which opened its doors on Sept. 28, 2012, is located at 115 New Mexico 4 in White Rock, NM. Shuttle service from White Rock to Bandelier National Monument and Los Alamos are accessible from the visitor center.
While in Los Alamos, celebrate Bandelier National Monument’s “Fall Fiesta” on Sunday, Oct. 6, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The fiesta includes craft booths with assorted Pueblo arts for sale, live raptors from the Santa Fe Raptor Center, Pueblo dances, and food. Entrance into the park is $6 per person. Public Lands Day is on Saturday, Sept. 28, when entry fees to the monument are waived. Visit nps.gov/band for more information.
On Friday, Oct. 4, Fuller Lodge Art Center in Los Alamos explores Edgar Allen Poe’s The Raven and its concepts of darkness in the “Deep Into That Darkness Peering Art Exhibit” with a special opening from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibit is free. Visit fullerlodgeartcenter.com for details.
Then from Oct. 10–13, Valles Caldera National Preserve is hosting their “Jemez Mountain Elk Fest.” The 89,000 acre Valles Caldera is home to more than 2,500 Rocky Mountain Elk. Activities include education booths, demonstrations, and elk viewing with a spectacular backdrop of the changing fall colors. Visit vallescaldera.gov for details.
